TEMPLETE: Identificando temas para el IRP

A (rather rudimentary!) template, to upload in TEAMs or similar, for students to identify their initial thematic choices. This could then be used: to discuss their choices as a class/individually to ensure that their choices do not overlap, once they refine them. to guide them with the next step

La Casa de Bernarda Alba: plan para redacción sobre Adela

Here is a plan that I gave my students to write an essay on Adela. This is a model question for the new A Levels and I am teaching " La Casa de Bernarda Alba" in the first year. You can use it to help weak students, for peer writing, to write your own essay, etc. I hope it is useful. Please browse through my resources in TES for speaking cards and revision notes for the new A Level. I am sure you will find something useful for you and for your students.

Cut the statements individually and place facing down. Students take it in turns to talk about each statement for a set time. This is one of my revision carousel activities prior to speaking exam. Any comments welcome! Enjoy!

This is a list of statements on the topic of Law and Order. Cut them individually and place in an envelope. Students take it in turns to argue for or against the statement. It is one of my many carousel activities during revision time.

Please note these are the answers to a document not published by me originally. I have respected the headings as in the original (some in English and some in Spanish. The original document can be found doing a search for +16 Revision. Thanks to the original author.

Al Y1 Writing Marks and Feedback Cover Sheet (AQA)

This is a cover sheet to return with written pieces. I have simplified it from the AQA mark scheme for the AS or first year. It corresponds to Paper 2 (Writing) in the AS Specification. It is intended to provide feedback on essays based on the book or film, but it can also be used to provide marks, feedback and set targets for any long piece of writing. For this reason I have adapted the heading in the first box to any "topic". The idea is that, from the beginning of the course, students get used to writing critical responses, different viewpoints that are explained and evidence, and focus on grammar and structure. For example, I have just used it to provide feedback on an essay on mobiles. This should have a positive impact on their speaking too.

¿Son machistas los jóvenes de hoy? Article, exercise and answers

(2)
This is an article taken from The Guardian newspaper where two young people are interviewed on the subject. There are four exercises to check general comprehension and answers. The format of the exercises is that of the new A Level exams (AQA), for example, summarising. The reading could be followed by students writing or voicing their own opinions on the subject. I have recently created other useful resources for the new specification. Please see below.
El presente regular: repaso

El presente regular: repaso

A simple classroom activity that can be done at the beginning of the course in GCSE or AL1, to revise the present tense. Play the PPP (timed) and make your students write the correct verb. For more able students, I make them write a sentence using topic-specific vocabulary. I have created this resource inspired and with kind permission of shara_nuku, who is selling PPPs with drills for all the other tenses. See her wonderful shop in TES, it is ACE! Enjoy the teaching and learning, Blanca

El tema de la obediencia en El Laberinto: traducción

Translation from English into Spanish on this theme. The translation adds up to key points useful for revision/essay writing. I made this resource with the help of the Hodder publication on the film (an excellent film guide, by the way!). Happy teaching and learning, Blanca.

UPDATED This is my 2018-19scheme of work for the second year of the AL Spanish. Please note that I do the film the second year, to tie it with the topic of Monarquías y Dictaduras. I also enclose the booklet I give the students (Programme of Study). The grade boundaries breakdown is based on the 2018 exams. You will find useful resources to teach the course in my shop, such as original and provoking speaking cards, general questions and very useful revision notes. Happy teaching! Blanca

Icebreaker: What does an excellent linguist do?

Icebreaker activity for induction of Y12. Students read statements and make selection judgments. This is followed by a class discussion, to set the expectations at the beginning of the year and to draw attention to students about what they can do to get high grades. Also useful for Y13 as a reminder! Enjoy!

El ordenador en nuestra vida cotidiana (listening)

(1)
A listening (or reading) activity focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of computers for personal use, between parents and children and for working at home. Two versions of the exercise for differentiation, together with transcript. Also, an extension reading at the end (quality not the best, apologies).
Las dictaduras: starter activity

Las dictaduras: starter activity

A one sheet starter activity, where students identify the odd one out. This can lead to further activities: -asking students to do online research on particular dictators and identify which apply to them most. asking students to describe the term in their own words and provide an example of a dictator’s activities matching the term translation and memorising
